Living Expenses in New Zealand for Indian Students

In New Zealand, most of the universities offer on-campus accommodation called the Halls of Residence to international students. In this case, the living as a resident on-campus is an affordable option for Indian as well as other international students. However, you need to apply for it separately, and well ahead in time to secure a slot for yourself. The cost of thsi accommodation ranges from NZ$ 215 to NZ$ 555 per week, which depend on the city and type of accommodation where you are staying. You can choose from either fully-catered or self-catered Halls of residence. 

You can also opt for off-campus accommodation and can share apartments with other students from India or other countries. Also, you can live in a homestay with a local family. Living in shared apartments or in a flat in New Zealand can cost you around NZ$120. If you choose to stay in this type of accommodation and arrive in the country before your tenancy, then you have to book your permanent stay in advance.

The living expenses in New Zealand is approximately between NZ$ 13,000 and NZ$ 16,000 per academic year (indicative). If you are planning to study in New Zealand for more than a year, then it is required to show that you have at least NZ$15,000 to cover your living expenses for the first year. But for courses less than one year, you must have at least $1250 for each month of your study program to contribute as your living expenses.
