QS World University Rankings 2023 Out; Who’s On Top?

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) is a London-based global higher education analyst who has recently released the QS World University Rankings 2023. It is the 19th edition that covers over 1400+ universities across the world.

As per the new ranking stats, The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) continues to rank at 1st position for the 12th consecutive year. The second and third position belongs to the University of Cambridge and Stanford University. The University of Oxford and Harvard University rank for the fourth and fifth positions.

There are a few categories on the basis of which these institutions are assessed, including:

  • Academic Reputation
  • Faculty/Student Ratio
  • Citations per Faculty
  • International Student Ratio
  • International Faculty Ratio

As per the last year’s ranking, these universities ranked in the following positions:

  • Stanford University – 3rd position
  • Harvard University – 5th position
  • California Institute of Technology (Caltech) – 6t position
  • UCL – 8th position
  • The University of Chicago -10th position

On the basis of the Citations Per Faculty indicator MIT, Harvard University, Caltech, Indian Institute of Science, and Stanford University score 100. Compared to the last year, this year’s QS WUR 2023 ranking features 27 US universities and 17 UK universities in the top 100.

Also, this year forty-one Indian universities, out of which 12 have improved their positions, 12 still maintain their ranks, and 10 have slipped positions.

QS World University Rankings 2023:

  • 1st Position – Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US
  • 2nd Position – the University of Cambridge in the UK
  • 3rd Position – Stanford University in the US
  • 4th Position – the University of Oxford in the UK       
  • 5th Position – Harvard University in the US
  • 6th Position – California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in the US
  • 6th Position – Imperial College London in the UK
  • 8th Position – UCL in the UK
  • 9th Position – ETH Zurich in Switzerland         
  • 10th Position – the University of Chicago in the US
