Indian students can now skip in-person US visa interviews. Know how?

Every dark cloud has a silver lining is a meaningful proverb that proves true in many situations. You will soon understand the reference of the quote used here.

The Covid-19 pandemic restricted the growth of many sectors, but today, we see some of its benefits. For all Indian students dreaming of pursuing higher education in the USA, the news that in-person interviews for visa applicants have been waived off till December 31, 2022, comes as a blessing.

This waiver covers various student categories… As per the reports, those who are eligible are students (F, M, and academic J visas), workers (H-1, H-2, H-3, and individual L visas) as well as people with cultural and extraordinary skills (O, P and Q visas).

The highly needed support came as a result of a meeting held between Ajai Jain Bhutoria (South Asian Community Leader and US President Joe Biden’s Advisor for Asian Americans) and Donald Lu (Secretary of State for South Central Asia) in California, where Ajai Ji kept his suggestion, and Donald Lu informed that the US Department of State has such authority.

However, there’s a need to fulfill certain criteria in order to qualify for the interview waiver program, such as-

  • The applicant must have been issued any category of US visa previously.
  • The applicant should never have been refused a US visa.
  • The applicant must have no apparent ineligibility or potential ineligibility.
