Entry Requirements for Undergraduate Programmes

Learn about the requirements for admission to the university if you have the NCEA.

You must first satisfy the University Entrance (UE) level in order to be admitted based on your National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA). The minimal need to enroll in a New Zealand university is UE.

Additionally, you must fulfill the entry requirements for the programme you want to enroll in. The University will construct a “rank score” based on the outcomes of your performance in Year 13 to represent this. Additionally, you might need to have taken certain courses and earned a certain number of credits in them for some programmes.

Some of the undergraduate programmes require you to have taken specified courses and earned a minimum number of credits in certain topics in addition to gaining admission to the university.

Entry Requirements for Postgraduate Programmes

Master’s degrees can be for a single year, 18 months, two years, or full-time study programs. The eligibility for a master’s degree depends entirely on prior study. Also, not every programme offers every option.

Admission to a One Year Master Degree

A completed bachelor’s degree with honors or a postgraduate diploma from New Zealand is often required for this or an acceptable equivalent postgraduate qualification from an accredited university abroad.

Admission to 18 months Master Degree

A completed bachelor’s degree or postgraduate certificate from New Zealand is often required for this or an acceptable certification from a reputable university abroad. Past professional experience may also be considered.

Admission to a 2 Year Master Degree

A completed bachelor’s degree from New Zealand is often required for this, or an approved equivalent qualification from an accredited university (or something similar) abroad. Past professional experience may also be considered.

Remember, many programmes, including those in writing, fine arts, music, urban design, and architecture, demand additional proof of creative aptitude.
