Canada Visa Study Permit Guide 2021

It is a document issued to students by the Canadian immigration authorities. The Study permit serves as a permission for international students to study in Canada. Foreign students must have a valid study permit to study in Canada. Study permit allows you to only study at the designated university/college.

You must carry the Letter of Introduction and all the required documents to Canada. On your arrival, you would meet with an Immigration Officer. He will validate your documents (passport, Letter or Introduction). Once the officer validates the documents, he will issue your Study Permit.

Eligibility Criteria for Canada Student Visa

Following criteria must be met to apply for Canada Student Visa:

• You have been accepted by a designated learning institute (DLI).
• You must have adequate funds to pay your tuition fee and living expenses.
• You must have no criminal record and have a clean background. Students need to provide a police certificate to back this.

You must have a college acceptance letter before you start with visa process. Documents required for Canada Student Visa in 2021 are:

1. Valid Passport

You must have a valid passport in order to apply for a study permit. As per the Canadian High Commission, the validity of the passport must cover the total stay in Canada. For example, if you wish to do a 3-year course in 2021, your passport must be valid until at least 2024.

2. Proof of Acceptance by Designated Learning Institution (DLI)

You must have acceptance letter from the university/institution where you plan to study. Designated Learning Institutes are institutions which are recognized by Immigration Department.

3. Proof of funds

You must provide proof of funds at the time of your application for Study Permit. You will have to prove that you have enough funds to pay for your tuition fees as well as manage your living expenses. The Canadian Immigration estimates living expenses of at least CAD 10,000 for students per year. Students would also have to prove if they have enough funds for travel expenses as well. The Student are required to deposit GIC ( Guaranteed Investment Certificate ) which is $10,000 CAD or above in their savings accounts which they can use for living expenses

4. Passport Size Photograph

For Offline application, you would also need two passport sized photographs. For Online application, you must provide a digital copy of the photograph. Note:

• size should not be more than 4 MB.
• Size should be at least 35mm x 45mm
• Photograph should be recent (should not be older than 6 months)

5. Immigration Medical Examination (IME)

International Students are required to undergo a compulsory Immigration Medical Examination. IME is required by the Canadian Immigration and must be done by empanelled doctors. Students must book an appointment and get medical examination. Booking an appointment, a week before with the nearest facility is always advised. The doctor will do a complete medical examination and might refer you to laboratory tests and Chest X-rays

6. English Language Proficiency Exam Score

It is not mandatory to have been appeared for English Language Proficiency Score at the time you begin your Visa application Process. But, You will need to submit your English Language Proficiency Score like TOEFL, IELTS score to confirm your admission to Canadian University.

7. Statement of Purpose

You are required to Submit an essay declaring your purpose of your visit to Canada. You must describe why you have been chosen by the institution. This document is option but it recommended to submit during the application.

8. Credit Card

For Online application, you will also require a credit card to make payments and process the application fee. The Visa application Fee for Canada Study Permit is CAD 150.

Apart from above, when you are applying online, you would need digital copies of all your documents. You will need to download a few documents, print them, fill them and then upload them.

During the personal interview, the interviewer may ask for additional documents. These documents will provide evidence to prove your academic and financial status is up to required guidelines.

• Transcripts, degrees, certificates, diplomas from schools you attended.
• Score from online Test such as TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, GRE or GMAT
• Your intent to return to your county after completing the course.
• Financial Documents to justify your educational, living and travel costs
