To study in Australia, you need to get a visa for student status in Australia. You can then change courses so that you can study in Australia at either the same level of study, or higher, but if you are changing courses to lower levels of study in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) or to courses that are not at an AQF level, then you need to apply for a new visa (unless you are changing a PhD to a Masters degree).
Some institutions and postgraduate courses will require you to have an Australian Bachelors degree-equivalent qualification. Applications are also accepted from students who have completed their Bachelors Degree in a 3-year program from an Australian university (AQF7), with courses that require a first-class or lower-second-class grade.
Admission into Bachelors degrees will require students to achieve 65 per cent or better in the Class 12 exam. For diplomas and basic courses, the minimum required percentage is slightly lower, with students who have scores less than 60 being eligible as well. For Diploma-level courses, applicants need to score 60% marks in Class XII exams. Admission usually requires either bachelors or higher diploma from an institution.
The requirements to be admitted for postgraduate studies in Australia for international students requires that a student has an undergraduate degree from a recognised university and an equivalent level of English language skills. The English language proficiency requirements to meet by prospective students wishing to pursue graduate studies at Australian universities differ between universities.
For most schools and courses, your understanding and English skills will be critical in gaining admission into an important course, such as a degree. The scores you need will depend on whether you are starting an undergraduate program full-time, taking an initial foundations course, or enrolling in an introductory Intensive English for International Students (ELICOS).
Students who have already completed (or are enrolling) in an English-taught degree program may not need to send in supplementary exam scores, but you should check this with your institution. Your prospective university should be able to tell you what tests they prefer (many will accept more than one), as well as what minimum scores, or grades, they require.
For a Masters programme, the minimum requirements will vary as well, depending on course and university, and it is best to first officially check, before applying. The eligibility criteria for an Australian Masters, which is one of the more sought-after courses, are in many cases also identical to those of an Australian Masters for international students.
To be eligible for enrolment into Bachelors degrees offered at universities and colleges in Australia, a person must be enrolled with at least 65 per cent of their class XII. Direct Entry In general, for studying in Australia, you will need to have minimum of 6.5 in the overall IELTS, and for post-graduate studies, you will not want any less than 6.0 bands.
Students wishing to study in Australia beyond Year 12 are eligible for a wide range of vocational and higher education courses. International students wanting to study in Australia with reduced costs may seek scholarships awarded by the Australian Government, state or private colleges, and higher education institutions for deserving international students.
