The Australian National University (ANU) assesses your submitted applications in three stages and sends mail to update you on the current status of your application. Email notifications brief you about the application status and any necessary actions that you need to take.
Let us discuss the Australian National University application assessment process in detail.
Eligibility Check (Stage 1)
Once your applications are submitted at the university, an eligibility check is performed. Under this process, the university authorities check whether all students qualify or meet the minimum admission requirements to study at ANU.
Minimum Admission Requirements for Undergraduate International Students
Firstly, in order to be accepted into an undergraduate coursework degree at the ANU university, the candidate must either satisfy the minimum academic requirements set by the institution through their senior secondary studies, or have completed at least one year of an Australian Bachelor Degree, or hold a qualification that is recognized by ANU as equivalent to an Australian Bachelor Degree under the Australian Qualification Framework.
Secondly, verify the entry requirements for the year and school you want to attend (For example, 2023). Prerequisites or portfolios are among the extra entry requirements for some programs.
The candidate must also qualify and meet the English language requirements of the university.
Minimum Admission Requirements for Postgraduate International Students
Firstly, in order to be accepted into a postgraduate coursework degree at the ANU university, the candidate must hold or is about to complete an Australian Bachelor Degree, or hold a qualification that is recognized by ANU as equivalent to an Australian Bachelor Degree under the Australian Qualification Framework.
There might be requirements unique to some programs. The Programs & Courses website allows you to check the prerequisites, cognate requirements, and work experience needed for your chosen program.
The candidate must also qualify and meet the English language requirements of the university.
Eligibility Check Outcomes
Once the university performs the Eligibility Check, you may receive the four possible outcomes in your mail.
Application is Incomplete: The candidate will receive this mail if all the requested documents were not sent to the authorities. The university sends this mail to the candidate and offers them the chance to send the missing documents and they can complete the Eligibility Check process. It will also share the application deadline to submit the missing documents.

Application is Complete: The candidate will receive this mail if he/she meets all the minimum requirements and qualify for the second stage – Ranking.
Ranking (Stage 2)
Under this stage, the candidate is ranked against other applications for the same program in the same round.
Assessment Criteria
For assessing the application, ANU university uses GPA or Selection Rank:
Undergraduate programs
The authorities calculate the ANU Selection Rank out of 99.95 based on the candidate’s academic qualification or course of study. If you satisfy the prerequisites for your desired ANU program, it will be based on your ANU Selection Rank.
Postgraduate programs
The Grade Point Average (GPA) system at ANU has seven points. All credentials presented for admission at ANU are scaled according to this standard. If you satisfy the published admission requirements, your GPA will be the deciding factor.
The GPA for a Bachelor program will be calculated from the:
– a completed Bachelor’s degree using all grades and/or
– a completed Bachelor’s degree using all grades other than those from the last semester (or equivalent study period) of the Bachelor’s degree.
The higher of the two calculations will be used as the basis for admission.
Tie Management
International Undergraduate
In case, you and one or more other international undergraduate applicants have the same Selection Rank, the university will use your English language proficiency score to determine the winner and confirm your ranking.
International Postgraduate
Your performance in the last two semesters that you have finished may be used to confirm your ranking if you are an international postgraduate applicant with the same GPA. Your English language proficiency score will be used to break any ties and determine your ranking if there are any.
Change Preferences
As per the new admissions procedure, the candidate can only apply to one school. However, you have one opportunity to switch to a different school before the application deadline expires.
