ANU Visa Requirements for International Students

As an ANU student, you must make sure you have a valid visa that allows you to continue your studies for the duration of your course of study. Usually, a subclass 500 student visa is used for this.

As soon as you obtain your electronic confirmation of enrolment (eCoE), you should apply for a student visa.

You must always make sure that you are following the restrictions of your visa because they are attached to every visa.

On the website of the Department of Home Affairs, you may find more details about the possibilities and requirements for student visas.

School Fee Exemption for Dependents of International HDR Students

For the dependents of international Higher Degree Research (HDR) students enrolling in ACT public schools, the ACT government has stated that they will waive school fees. You can visit the ACT Government website for more details on eligibility.

Electronic confirmation of enrolment (eCoE)

All international students who accept their offer to enroll at ANU are given an eCoE document. This document, which you need to apply for a student visa, attests to the length of your study programme.

A new eCoE must be produced if your programme of study is modified and approved by ANU.

Passport

Additionally, you must possess a passport stating the stay duration in Australia. You should find out how to renew your passport before leaving Australia if it is about to expire while you are there.

Study Load

You must finish your course by the deadline stated in your electronic enrollment confirmation. (eCoE). You must enroll in 24 units every semester or a full-time study load of 100%.

Reducing your study load will cause your programme of study to last longer, which is against the terms of your student visa.

Only in the case of an exceptional condition, you may be approved to lessen your course load, and you must provide proof (such as medical or counseling credentials) to support your request.

Academic Progress

Your student visa requires that you make sufficient academic progress. Unsatisfactory academic progress must be reported by ANU to the Department of Home Affairs.

You will be asked to attend a progress meeting and agree on actions to help you improve your progress if it is determined that you are at risk of not achieving adequate academic progress.

Report your Details

You must always be reachable by the University, and your passport and visa information must be accurate.

Any modifications to your contact information must be reported to ANU within five working days. Any changes to your passport or visa must be reported to ANU within 10 working days.
